WILLIE SMITH, SR.

Willie Smith, Sr., age 75, entered into eternal rest at Ochsner Medical Center Westbank on Friday, October 25, 2024. He was a Native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Harvey, LA. Willie was a 1967 graduate of L. B. Landry High School, and he attended Delgado Community College and Southern University at New Orleans. He served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army and received numerous commendation including the Bronze Medal. Willie was a retired Elevator Inspector. He was a faithful member of St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church, where he sang in the Male Chorus, and was a member of the Brotherhood and pastor Support Team. Willie was also a life member of VFW 3121 and an honorary member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors. Beloved husband of Terry Lewis Smith. Devoted father of Willie Smith, Jr., Keyokke Smith-Burns, Dr. Joy Smith-Durant, Yashica Hill, Tory Scott, and the late Roderick Smith. Son of the late Dan, Sr. and Georgianna Smith. Brother of the late Rosie Bee Wyatt, Hannah Mae Bolds, Dan, Jr., Lazarus, George, Walter, Wilbert, Shirley, Roosevelt, and Lillian Smith. Willie is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, of members of St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church and all neighboring churches; members of VFW 3121 and International Union of Elevator Constructors are invited to attend the Homegoing Celebration at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church, 1738 L. B. Landry Avenue, New Orleans, LA on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 10:00a.m. Pastor Norman Francis, officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time at the church.
