WILLIE BURTON III

Willie Burton III, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Harvey, LA. Willie was a 1954 graduate of L. B. Landry High School, and he attended Southern University of Baton Rouge, where he was a member of the concert, dancing and marching bands. He served his country for eight years as a Communication Specialist in the U. S. Air Force. After completion of his military duties, Wille enjoyed a long career with Exxon Oil Company. He was a faithful member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and a member of the Men’s Auxiliary and Male Chorus. Known for his easy smile, love of jazz, and dedication to family and faith, Willie will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Beloved husband of 63 years to Ruth Surbadger Burton. Devoted father of Terri L. Burton and loving father to Murvin (Marilyn) Granderson, Jr. and Eric (Lorraine) Granderson. Proud grandfather of Miles Granderson, Jennifer Anderson, Jessica King, and Kelly Williams. Cherished great grandfather of Simone, Alex, Isabelle, Roman, Gracie, Ava, Troy, and Lawren; also survived by a host of other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Homegoing Celebration at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, 1249 LeBoeuf Street, New Orleans, LA on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 10:00a.m. Pastor Dudley Watson, officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00a.m. until service time at the church.
