WESLEY JOHNSON, JR.

Wesley Johnson, Jr. entered eternal rest on Tuesday, June 8, 2021. He was a native of Natchez, MS and a resident of New Orleans, LA.  Wesley was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School class of 1956. He also went on to attain a Bachelor of Science degree in Instrumental Music from Xavier University, class of 1960. Wesley was a dedicated educator and natural-born musician who put his skills to use for over 20 years. He served his country in the United States Army, and while serving, he sang with a group called, “The Checkmates.” Beloved husband of Tanya King Johnson for 33 years. From this union was born Kortlynn Johnson. Father of Dr. Jessica Johnson and D’Laika Johnson (Bryan) Robinson. Grandfather of Brija and Brooklynn Johnson. Son of the late Wesley Johnson, Sr. and Agnes Brown Johnson (Linzy) Guyton. Brother of Edward Brown Green and James Green. Wesley is also survived by a host nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family also pastors, officers, and members of Union Bethel A.M.E. Church, and neighboring churches; employees of Orleans and Jefferson Parish Public School System, Bernard Lumbar Company, and UPS are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Union Bethel A.M.E. Church 2321 Thalia St. New Orleans, LA on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 10:00a.m. until service time. Interment: Westlawn Cemetery- Gretna, LA.
