Vernon Rodney Byrd departed this life in the comfort of his home on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at the age of 58.  He was a native of Centerville, IL and a resident of Marrero, LA. He was a 1980 graduate of Cahokia Senior High School and continued his studies at Vatterott Educational Center, where he earned an electrician certificate. Vernon traveled to New Orleans after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina to help rebuild the city, and eventually made Louisiana his permanent residence.  He worked with various companies as an electrician over the years and was a member of Plumbers Steam Fitters Local Union 60.  Loving husband of Carolyn Green-Byrd. Exceptional stepfather of Kawana Green, Detrose McKinney, Okema McKinney and Sherren Campbell. Son of the late Ruben B. Byrd, Sr. and Olivia Edwards-Byrd.  Brother of Floyd (Evelyn) Freeman of Lubbock, TX, Ruben Byrd, Jr. of Bellville, IL, Marvin (Constance) Byrd of Centerville, IL, Jeffery Byrd of Anniston, AL, Dale Byrd of Clairmont, CA, Bridgette Stephens of South Carolina, Marcia Byrd of Washington Park, IL, and the late Charles Johnson, Damon, Wayne, and Arvis Byrd.  Special friend of Clay Harvey, Donivan Lasley,Theon Phillips, and Reginald Perkins; also survived by 6 grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at DAVIS MORTUARY SERVICE, 6820 WESTBANK EXPRESSWAY MARRERO, LA on Friday, June 5, 2020 at 1:00p.m. Visitation will begin at 12:00 Noon until service time at the parlor.
