Tameka Germelle Butler, known as “Meka” entered eternal life to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at the age of 54. She was a native and lifelong resident of New Orleans LA. She excelled academically and graduated from Alcee Fortier High as the class salutatorian. Driven by a passion for education and a desire to uplift others, she pursued higher learning at Southern University, earning an Associated Degree in Education. This led her to a fulfilling role as a substitute teacher, where she inspired countless young minds with her dedication and warmth. Tameka served her country as a member of the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 2004. For her bravery she received numerous medals and commendations, including National Defense Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, and Army Service Ribbon, just name a few. After her military service, Tameka became gainfully employed with the Department of Transportation in Washington, D.C., and as a teacher with the YMCA. Tameka’s life was a testament to perseverance, love and selflessness, she was a beacon of hope and a source of joy to all who knew her. Beloved daughter of Deborah Ratcliff Butler and Raymond Gerald (Karen) Butler, Sr. Granddaughter of the late Willie L. (Audrey) Ratcliff, Sr. and Alvin (Bertha “Mick”) Butler, Sr. Loving sister of Raymond Gerald (Tiffany) Butler, Jr. Devoted aunt of Ryleigh McKenzie Butler and Taylor Marie Butler. Great niece of Willie Mae Woolridge and Willena Ratcliff Herbert. Goddaughter of Thadius Billy. Godmother of Craneisha and Ki’aja. Also cherishing her memories are her lifelong friends Renee, Denise, Demetress, Jaunita, Shirell, Michelle, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers and members of Second St. John Baptist Church and neighboring churches are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Second St. John Baptist Church, 242 Avondale Garden Road, Avondale, LA on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 12:00p.m. Pastor Damian J.
