SONGY MARIE CHAMBERS TURNER

Songy Marie Chambers Turner entered eternal rest on Friday, May 20, 2022, at the age of 68. She was a native of New Orleans, LA, and a resident of Marrero, LA. Songy was a 1971 graduate of Xavier Prep, and continued her studies at Xavier University obtaining a degree in Early Childhood Education in 1975. While at Xavier she pledged Gamma Sigma Sigma Sorority. Songy retired after more than 29 years as an educator in Orleans and Jefferson Parish Public School Systems. Loving wife of 39 years to James Edward Turner. Devoted mother of Derek Turner, Samantha Turner, and the late Jamie Denise Turner. Stepmother of Daryl Turner, and James Edward Turner, Jr. Grandmother of Jamel E. Turner, Therin “T.J.” Smith, Jr., Selena M. Turner, Aaliyah M Turner, and Marilyn G. Gonzalez. Daughter of Dolores Chambers and the late Milton Chambers. Granddaughter of the late Thomas and Olga P. Benton. Sister of Wanda Armstead and the late Cheryl Chambers-Brown. Songy is also survived by a host of other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family also pastor, officer, and members of Progressive Church, St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, and neighboring churches are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Progressive Church, 437 Cohen St., Marrero, LA. on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at 10:00a.m. Pastor Sterling Mealancon, officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. until service time at the above-named church. Interment: Woodlawn Park Memorial Cemetery-Westwego, LA.
