SHIRLEY MAE WILSON SMITH

Shirley Mae Wilson Smith entered eternal rest at Bayside Health Care Center on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at the age of 91. She was a resident of Gretna (McDonoghville), LA and a resident of Algiers, LA. Shirley was a graduate of L. B. Landry High School Class of 1951, and she attended Xavier University of New Orleans. She retired after 35 years with the Orleans Parish School System as a dietitian. Beloved wife of the late Ernest J. Smith, Sr. Mother of Amelia Casby, Leotha Jolla, Shirley (Melvin) Dumas, Ernest Smith, Jr., and the late Marvin Smith. Grandmother of the late Shannon Smith, and Akieem Jolla. Great grandmother of the late George Hankton. Daughter of the late Eli Wilson and Leta Howard Wilson. Granddaughter of the late Robert and Mary Wilson, Lindsey and Nellie Butler Howard. Sister of the late Frank, Sr. (Earline), Alvin, Wilfred, Shelby (Marilyn) Wilson, and Nellie Hawkins. Sister in law of Lillian Wilson, and the late Amelia “Pinky” Smith. Godmother of Richard Hawkins, Jr., and the late Diana Jones, also survived by 13 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Greater Morning Star Baptist Church, and neighboring churches are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Greater Morning Star Baptist Church 1242 Valette St. New Orleans, LA on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 10:00a.m. Pastor W. L. T. Littleton officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time at the church. Interment: Woodlawn Park Memorial Cemetery-Westwego, LA.
