ROYAL PHOENIX, SR.

Royal Phoenix, Sr., age 84, entered peacefully into eternal rest at his residence on Tuesday, November 21, 2023. He was a native and resident of New Orleans, LA. Royal was a graduate of L. B. Landry High School. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and the U. S. Army. Royal was a retired police officer of NAS JRB New Orleans and Kalvar, and a former reserve officer with NOPD and Gretna Police Department. He was an active member of Second Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Photographer/Videographer, and Sunday Morning Prayer Service Leader. Loving husband of Lydia Gant Phoenix. Devoted father of Pastor Darrell Phoenix, Pastor LeRoy Phoenix, Corey Phoenix, and Royal Phoenix, Jr. Son of the late John Phoenix, Jr. and Hennie Williams Phoenix. Grandson of the late John, Sr. and Roselia Phoenix, Louis, Sr. and Celestine Henry Williams. Beloved brother of Leomie Brooks, Elvira Martin, Sidney Phoenix, and the late John Phoenix III, Wallace Phoenix, Sr. and Frank Phoenix, Sr. Father-in-law of Cindy Phoenix and Chelsea Phoenix. Son-in-law of the late Samuel Gant, Sr. and Alberta Riley Gant. Brother-in-law of Alvin (Lana) Gant, Samuel Gant, Jr., Schelander Phoenix, Catherine Phoenix, Brenda Gant, Rosalie Mosely, Annette (Leonard) Green, Leslie Gant, Verna Gant, Antionette Jackson, Jessica (Horace) Douglas, Joyce Wilson, and the late Errol Gant, Sr. and Brenda Gant.  Also cherishing his memories are 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Second Baptist Church, Enlighten Fellowship Church, Victory Christian Center International, Second Nazarine Baptist Church, Asbury United Methodist Church, and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Homegoing Celebration at Second Baptist Church, 2836 Sullen Place, New Orleans, LA on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 10:00a.m. Pastor Andre Sigler, officiating. Viewing will be held from 8:00a.m.-10:00a.m. ONLY at the above named church.
