Prophet Thomas C. Rhodes, Jr., age 74, was called home to his eternal resting place on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at Southeast Veterans Hospital. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Harvey, LA. He was a graduate of West Jefferson High School, and he attended Delgado Community College. He was drafted in the military during the Vietnam War, and honorably served his country in the United States Army. For his bravery he received several commendations, including National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal W/2 Bronze Service Stars and Sharpshooter (M-60 MG), just to name a few. After, completing his military duties, Thomas became a career as a first-class welder at Avondale Shipyard. During this time, he also accepted the calling into the ministry and was licensed and ordained as a minister. In 1992, he stepped out into pastoralship, and True Liberty Mission Church was birthed. For the past 30 years he continued as a pastor and overseer, training and developing men and women to preach the gospel. Affectionately known to many as “Tom”, “Elder Rhodes”, Pastor Rhodes” Prophet Rhodes”, or “Junie” he will be remembered for his wisdom, greatness, humility, love of the Lord, and as a giant who wore many hats. Beloved husband for over 51 years to Carmen R. Rhodes. Devoted father of Thomas C. (Troylynn) Rhodes III, Gilbert W. (Jennifer) Rhodes, and Dominic C. (Tyesha) Rhodes. Loving grandfather of Tomanique Rhodes, Mykia Turner, Jacquel Rhodes, Alayshia Rhodes, Gabrielle Rhodes, Jordyn Rhodes, Dyla Rhodes, and Gideon Rhodes. Great grandfather of Skylar and Caison. Son of the late Thomas C. Rhodes, Sr. and Myrtle Pierre. Brother of Nathan, Eric, Gerald, and John Rhodes, Patricia Schuster, Joann and Joan Rhodes, and the late Larry and Geraldine Rhodes. Godfather of Brandi Poree, Willie Schuster, Tara Rhodes, and Malayasa McGee. Also cherishing his memories are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, his church family, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of True Liberty Mission Church, Westwego Church of God In Christ, and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Westwego Church of God In Christ, 130 Louisiana Street, Westwego, LA on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 10:00a.m. Pastor Leslie Stewart, host pastor; Min. Dominic C. Rhodes, officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time at the church.
