Ora Lee “Girlie” Griffin Thomas was called from her earthly labors to eternal rest at New Orleans East Hospital on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at the age of 58. She was a native and resident of New Orleans, LA. Ora was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and Southern University of New Orleans (SUNO) with an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education. She was a retired employee of Total Community Action (TCA) Head Start, and multiple Home Health agencies throughout the south. She was an active member of Berean Presbyterian Church, where she served as church secretary, lead Chef of the outreach mission, and worship committee. Ora enjoyed helping others, being a mentor to children, the New Orleans Saint games, cooking and partying. Beloved mother of Ryan (Jessica), Damien (Christina), and Henry (Audrey) Griffin. Loving grandmother of Damien Griffin, Jr, De’Eryc Smith, Henry Griffin, Jr., Noelle Griffin, Ahmad Griffin, and Taraji Griffin. Daughter of the late Raymond Griffin, Sr. and Rita Mae Washington Griffin Joseph. Stepdaughter of the late Edwin Joseph. Sister of Rose Griffin Francois, Wanda Burton, and Raymond Griffin, Jr. Ora is also survived by the father of her children Henry Thomas, a host of several extended grandchildren who loved her dearly, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Memorial Service at Berean Presbyterian Church, 1629 Simon Bolivar Ave. New Orleans, LA on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 11:00a.m. A balloon release will immediately follow the service. The Griffin/Thomas families will receive guest from 10:00a.m.-11:00a.m. at the above named church.
