MERVIN JOSEPH PONSON

Mervin Joseph Ponson entered into eternal rest at West Jefferson Medical Center on Friday, April 16, 2021 at the age of 69. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and resident of Gretna, LA. Mervin was a 1969 graduate of Lincoln High School, and a retired Maintenance Worker of Willow Homes. Beloved husband of Iris S. Ponson. Loving father of Aaron J. Ponson, Sr. and Ayan S. Ponson. Stepfather of Glenn, Sr., Robin, and Randy Guidry, Dionne R. Jones, and Shontell Rodgers. Grandfather of Nia and Aaron Ponson, Jr., Skyler Logan, and Zoe Singleton.  Son of Joycelyn Butler Owens and the late Alvin J. Ponson, Sr. Grandson of the late Mervin J. and Harriett L. Butler, Thomas, Sr. and Cecil R. Ponson. Brother of Henry Owens, Ricky Owens, Reynaud, Alvin, Jr. Michael and Diane Ponson, Donald and Ronald Ballet. Stepbrother of Ryan Kirk. Mervin is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church, Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, Shiloh Baptist Church of Gretna and neighboring churches; employees of the U. S. Postal Service and Frankie D. Taylor Management Company and Ochsner Medical Center; members of Gamma Rho Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. are invited to attend the Funeral Service at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church, 1738 L. B. Landry Ave. New Orleans, LA on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at 10:00a.m. Pastor Norman Francis, officiating.  Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time.
