MELVIN ARBUTHNOT, SR.

Melvin Arbuthnot, Sr. entered eternal rest at his residence on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at the age of 72. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Gretna, LA. Melvin was a graduate of L. B. Landry High School, Delgado Vocation Trade Institute, Government Security Training, and various military specialty schools throughout his military career. He was a retired sergeant major with the United States Army serving 35 years for his country. For his bravery he received numerous medals and commendations. Melvin was owner & operator of M.A. Quick Renovations. Beloved husband of Cheryl M. Johnson Arbuthnot. Devoted father of Melvin (Bridget C.) Arbuthnot, Jr. Son of the late James Arbuthnot, Sr. and Tena Lee Arbuthnot. Brother of Joyce (Chris) Smith, Debra (Albert) Taylor, Suzette (Darren) Moody, James (Leona) Arbuthnot, Jr., Michael (Elaine) Arbuthnot, Donald (Faye) Arbuthnot, Carl (Josie) Arbuthnot, Reginald Arbuthnot, Kevin (Deborah) Arbuthnot, and the late Anthony Arbuthnot, and Henry Lee. Nephew of the late Louise Dorsey, and George Lee. Son in law of the late Cecil Johnson, Sr., and Dorothy O’Neil Johnson. Brother in law of Demetrise Posey, Katherine Williams, Donice Wharton, Elise (James) Nero, Jessica (Paul) Lucky, Fredericka (Alfred) Bridges, and Joanette Williams, also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, and neighboring churches are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 1126 N. Robertson Ave. New Orleans, LA on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Sidney Joshua officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the church. Interment: Providence Memorial Park Cemetery Metairie, LA. Arrangements by Davis Mortuary Service 230 Monroe St. Gretna, LA.
