MARY GREEN MCGOWAN

Mary “Pie” McGowan peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on Monday, November 15, 2021, at the age of 77. She was a native of Utica, MS and resident of Marrero, LA. Mary worked many jobs, but she was best known and loved as the neighborhood Candy Lady. She was a member of New Zion Baptist Church in Marrero, where she enjoyed singing in the choir, Bible Study and Sunday School. Beloved wife of the late Luther Karay McGowan, Sr. Loving mother of Mark Anthony (Lacern) McGowan, Luther Karay (Deidra) McGowan, Jr., Sylvia (Alexander) Harley, Kimberly (Anthony) Nash, Marcy McGowan and the late Marchell Alejandro Ray and Amos Lee. Daughter of the late Phillip Green, Sr., and Lula Mae Crawford Green. Sister of Lucille (James) Harris, Octavia (Lue Gene) Moffett, Katie (Calvin) Miles, Jeanette (Cortez) Thompson, Pearlie (Matt) Griffin, Luvonne (John) Hunter, Patricia (Christopher) Dixon, Priscilla, George and Edward Green, and the late Phillip (Wilma) Green, Jr., Freddie (Mary) Lee, and Eddie Lee. Godmother of Charles Williams; also survived by a host of grandchildren, devoted family, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of New Zion Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Funeral Service at New Zion Baptist Church, 1131 Garden Road, Marrero, LA on Monday, November 22, at 10:00a.m. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. until service time at the above-named church.
