LEROY LEWIS

Leroy Lewis, age 89, transitioned peacefully into eternal rest at West Jefferson Medical Center on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. He was a native and resident of Gretna, LA. Leroy was a graduate of L. B. Landry High School and Straight Business School. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Leroy was the owner of Lewis and Son LLC and a Mail Contractor with the United States Postal Service. After many years of service as a School Bus Driver, he retired from the Jefferson Parish Public School System. As one of the oldest male members of St. Paul Baptist Church, Leroy was not only active in his church, but he was also active in his community as past president of the Westside Old Timers Baseball Club and Westside Business Association. Beloved husband of the late Dorothy Williams Lewis. Loving father of Dr. Willie Leroy (Dr. Mary Lynn) Lewis, Alvis L. (Dr. W. Ron) Walker, and Avanda Lewis. Devoted grandfather of Wayne Lewis, Chantal Walker, Amanda Perkins, Ron Walker, Jordan Lewis, and Jaillen Anderson. Son of the late Herbert Lewis and Beulah M. Scott. Grandson of the late Willie and Edna Barney Scott. Brother of the late Ras Varnado, Jr., Vernita Chopin and Sharon Adams. Leroy is also survived by 4 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relative and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of St. Paul Baptist Church, The Hope of Glory Church, and all neighboring churches; members of O. J. Dunn Masonic Temple are invited to attend the Homegoing Celebration at The Hope of Glory Church, 1409 Romain St. Gretna, LA on Friday, November 12, 2021, at 10:00a.m.  Dr. W. Ron Walker, host pastor; Pastor Orin Grant, officiating  Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time at the church.
