Leola Thomas Winchester, age 89, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Friday, November 5, 2021. She was a native of Houma, LA and a resident of Marrero, LA. Leola was educated in Terrebonne Parish Public School System. She was a homemaker and seamstress. Leola was an active member of Little Zion Baptist Church #3, where she severed faithfully as a member of Usher Board 1&2 for over 60 years. She was also secretary of Usher Board 1 and a member of the Women Ministry and Pastor Support Ministry, until her health began to decline. Beloved wife of the late Lawrence Winchester, Sr. Loving mother of Lawrence (Elizabeth) Winchester, Donald Winchester, David (Lurdia) Winchester, Barbara (Samuel, Jr.) Washington, Doris Winchester, Rosalee (Ronald) Barton, Betty Harris, Carolyn (Morris) Sambrone, Sandra (Rick) Stevens, and the late James Thomas and Lionel Winchester. She was also instrumental in the rearing of Monique Myles (Rocky) Logan, whom she loved as a daughter. Stepmother of the late Sandra Rita Junior. Grandmother of the late Veronica Walker, Alicia (Lisa) Hymes, Samuel Gabriel Washington and Cordell Gibson. Great grandmother of the late Theodore Monroe, Maliyah Gasper, De’Jounique and Alexis Harris. Daughter of the late Elijah and Ora Mae Williams Thomas. Sister of the late Gloria Elizabeth Childs. Mother-in-law of Olida Thomas of Ypsilanti, MI, and the late Joseph Harris. Sister-in-law of late Rosalie Lee Royal. Leola is also survived by 32 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, her devoted great nephew Robert L. Griffin, Jr., her friends Billy and Martha Raine, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers and members of Little Zion Baptist Church #3 and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Homegoing Celebration at Little Zion Baptist Church #3, 441 Wilson Rd. Marrero, LA on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at 10:00a.m. Pastor Norman D. Smith, III Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time at the above named church.
