Lamone Joseph Young, Jr. entered into eternal rest at Tulane University Medical Center on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at the age of 32. He was a native of Gretna, LA and a resident of Marrero, LA. Lamone attended L. W. Higgins High School and Xavier University. While in high school he was the drum major of the marching band. “LJ”, as he was affectionately known to family and friends, was a gifted musician who began playing the organ and piano for numerous churches at a young age. With a desire to enhance his musical gifts, Lamone began a mentorship under the direction of Henry Smith, Jr. and Pastor Mitchell Stephens. Lamone played at various churches throughout the New Orleans Metropolitan area. He was also employed with St. Katherine Drexel and The Center for Literacy and Learning as a Financial Business Manager. In 2014, he was featured in Gambit Weekly, as Top 40 Under 40, for his documentary, Ballard of Hope. Lamone’s musical talents has left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Devoted father of Bailee’ LaNae and Brinnon La’Mya Young. Beloved son of Kim Brown Young (Charles A., Sr.) Wilson and the late Lamone Young, Sr. Grandson of Evelyn Wilson and the late Cyril and Doris Andrews Brown, Lionel Davis, Alice Mae Webster, and Joseph Young. Brother of Charles A. Wilson, Jr., Terrence Greenup, Cedric Ferrill, and the late Joshua Darell Brown. Companion of Jazmyn Mack. Lamone is also survived by his former wife Jenae Marshall Young, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family also pastors, officers, and members of Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Greater Zionfield Family Worship Center, Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Hosanna Fellowship, New Light Baptist Church and neighboring churches; faculty, staff and students of St. Katherine Drexel Preparatory School, Xavier University, and the Center for Literacy and Learning ; employees of University Medical Center, LCMC Health, Apex Construction LLC, Jefferson Parish Dept of Streets, and Amazon Distribution Center are invited to attend the Homegoing Celebration at Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 433 Avondale Garden Rd Avondale, LA on Monday, August 14, 2023, at 10:00a.m. Pastor Damian Brown/Pastor Samuel Travis, Jr. officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. at the above named church. A Musical Tribute will be held at Greater Zionfield Family Worship Center, 636 11th St., Westwego, LA on Sunday, August 13, 2023, beginning at 5:00p.m. Interment: Restlawn Park Cemetery-Avondale, LA.
