In Loving Memory of Joseph Gary "Pops" Champagne Sunrise January 4, 1940 - Sunset April 3, 2025. With profound sadness, we share the passing of Joseph Gary Champagne, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, who passed away peacefully at the age of 85. Joseph Gary was born on January 4, 1940, in New Orleans, La. to the late McCullough and Almedia Champagne . At a young age, he met and married the love of his life and soulmate Nita Poche. They loved and raised 3 children, Shenita, Donald, and Alita. He devoted himself to his family, ensuring they had the best education and cherished annual vacations. He also loved all 5 of his grandchildren always ready to provide them with fun activities during the summer, like fishing, amusement parks, and sports. Joseph Gary was a life long member of St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church where his parents made grave cobributions to the church. He remained a dedicated member proudly serving as an usher, a job that he took very seriouisly. He arrived early to serve and rarely missed a Sunday for many years. He . He also committed countless hours volunteering for church activities, especially at the St. Joseph The Worker Parish Fair. Joseph Gary dedicated over 40 years to the automotive industry, including 10 plus years as a proud business owner who was, known for his ingenuity, dedication, kindness, dependability, and reliability. He was an avid lover of cars, especially race cars, an enthusiastic fisherman, and a dedicated New Orleans Saints fan. He will always be remembered for his kind and generous spirit. His loving spirit will live on through his family and all he loved and with whom he came in contact. Joseph Gary is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Nita Poche Champagne, his children, Shenita Baker (Carlos), and Alita T. Champagne, his daughter in law Lisa Sanford Champagne, his sister Audrey Champagne Lumzy, his sister in law Rita P. Richards (Alton), his grandchildren, DeCarlos Baker, Sean Champagne, Christina Champagne, Ireti Akinwande and Ayo Akinwande, and great granddaughter Charlotte Champagne, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He is preceeded in death by his parents McCullough and Almedia Champagne, his siblings Charles,(CJ), McCullough Jr, Elwin, James(Perry), and his son Donald R. Champagne. Relatives and friends of the family, also priest and parishioners of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 455 Ames Blvd. Marrero, LA on Friday, April 11, 2025, at 10:00a.m. Father Sydney Speaks, celebrant. Visitation will begin at 8:00a.m.; Recitation of Rosary 8:45a.m.; Tribute to follow. Interment: Restlawn Park Cemetery-Avondale, LA.
