Joe Jackson, Jr. entered eternal rest at Ochsner Medical Center Westbank on Friday, January 17. 2025 at the age of 87. He was a native of Church Hill, MS and a resident of Marrero, LA. “Bo”, as he was affectionately known by family and friends, served his country in the United States Navy. He was stationed on the U.S.S. Essex, a Battleship Carrier, as a fuel system maintenance crew member; this battleship docked in 33 countries. Joe was employed for over 30 years as a forklift driver with International Longshoreman Association until his retirement in 1998. He was a former member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Westwego, LA, where he became an ordained deacon. In 2004, he relocated for a short time to Fayette, MS. While in the Fayette area he frequented local churches and was often led to dance in the spirit. This earned him the title of the Dancing Deacon and the Praise Angel. Even after his health began the decline, Joe continued to testify and confess his love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He will be remembered for his legacy of love, pride, self-confidence, and hard work. Loving father of Willie (Carol), Milton, Joseph (Reena), Latricia, Sandra, and Kenneth Jackson, and the late Aaron and Floyd King Jackson. Grandfather of Ciara L. (Jerome) Veal, Desmond Jackson, Damar J. Jackson, Tyler Jackson, Jasmine B. Grandpre’, Kayla T. Jackson, Kiara A. Hawkins, Isaiah X. Jackson, and Sydni K. Hawkins. Son of late Joseph and Bessie Mae Richardson Jackson. Grandson of the late Mamie Jackson Perryman and Martha Kimble. Brother of Elizabeth Jones, Alberta Brown, Mildred Morgan, Robert, Melvin (Jackie), Clyde (Tameka), and Theodore (JoAnn) Jackson, and the late Wille Bell Davis, Richard, John Lee, Aubrey, and D.W. Jackson. Joe is also survived by his former wife Mildred S. Jackson, 7 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastor, officers, and members of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Davis Mortuary Service 6820 Westbank Expressway Marrero, LA on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Woodrow Hayden officiating.
