JOAN SMITH RICKSON

Joan Avis Smith Rickson entered into eternal rest on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at the age of 52. She was a native of Chicago, IL and a resident of New Orleans, LA. She was a graduate of L.W. Higgins Class of 1989 and continued her education at Delgado Community College Practical Nursing Center of Excellence in 2011. She was employed at various medical facilities in the New Orleans areas in nursing and most recently with the Jewish Community Center. Beloved wife of Dorian Joseph Rickson, Sr. Loving mother of Dorian Joseph Rickson, Jr. Daughter of Willie Mae Johnson Smith and the late John Smith, Jr. Granddaughter of the late Jules and Nadage Johnson, John, Sr., and Annie Smith. Sister of Doyle Smith, Ira Carey, and Deanne Johnson, also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also priest and parishioners of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Boynton United Methodist Church, and all neighboring churches; employees of East Jefferson General Hospital, O’Reilly Auto Parts, and New Orleans Jewish Community Center are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 455 Ames Blvd. Marrero, LA on Monday, July 3, 2023 at 10:00a.m. Father Sydney Speaks, Celebrant. Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m., Recitation of Rosary 8:45a.m., and Celebration of Life to follow. Interment: Will Be Private.
