Joan “Joran” Gray, age 78, transitioned to her heavenly home on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at Marrero Health Care Center. She was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Westwego, LA. She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. She retired from Charity Hospital after 30 years as an OB/GYN Nurse. Loving mother of Angela Gray and the late Detrice Ann Hampton (Jack). Devoted grandmother of Ernest Lee Gray II (Tomekia L. Bradley), Jorann Toney, Angelina Gray, Chris Gray, and Christopher Gray. Daughter of the late James and Lucy Gillis. Sister of Dorothy Gillis, Mildred G. Perkins, Josephine G. Lucas (her identical twin), and the late Martha S. Jackson (August), Margie Mae Jackson (Rev. Eugene), and Victoria Gillis. Joan is also survived by 6 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Union Bethel AME Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Union Bethel AME Church, 2321 Thalia St. New Orleans, LA on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at 11:00a.m. Rev. Dr. Keith Sanders, officiating Visitation will begin at 10:00a.m. until service time at the church. Interment: Will be Private. Arrangements by Davis Mortuary Service 230 Monroe St. Gretna, LA.
