James Crumpton, Jr. entered into eternal rest on Monday, March 20, 2023, at the age of 61, after a 5-year valiant battle with stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer. He was a native and resident of New Orleans, LA. James was a graduate of Alcee Fortier High School Class of 1979, and he attended Southern University and A&M College on a music scholarship before transferring to Southern University at New Orleans. “Cricket”, as he was affectionately known by family and friends, worked with InspireNOLA Charter Schools and James Singleton Charter School supporting students with exceptionalities. James spent many years working for nonprofit organizations with the focus on at-risk youth and adults with intellectual disabilities. He received numerous awards of recognition for his exemplary work and service throughout his career. Loving and devoted husband of 41 years to Tammy Lanies Crumpton. Beloved father of Semaj Tamara Crumpton. Son of the late James Crumpton, Sr., and Mary Zetella Robinson Crumpton. Grandson of the late Victor Kelly Melancon and Mary Blanchard Melancon. Brother of Alva Williams, Yada Matthews, Sheila (Joseph, Sr.) Lebeau, Phyllis Kemp Douglas, and the late Grayling Kemp. Great nephew of the late James Pettaway and Ruth Blanchard Pettaway, and also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
