ISABELLE MELVINA JOHNSON SIAS

Isabelle “Melvina” Johnson Sias earned her wings on Friday, August 2, 2024, at the age of 82. She was a native and resident of Oakville, LA. Melvina’s educational journey began in the Plaquemines Parish school system. She graduated Valedictorian from Scottville High School and went on to earn her undergraduate degree from Grambling State University. She later received a master’s degree plus 30 from Southern University. Her 43 year career in education began as a High School teacher at Sunrise High School where she later moved to Belle Chasse High School and taught English IV. Over the years, she held several roles with the State and within Plaquemines Parish School Board. Some of the roles included: Assistant Principal, Curriculum Specialist, Personnel Director, Migrant Director and ultimately retired as Assistant Superintendent. Devoted wife of the late Albert Ray Sias. Beloved mother of Tia Kasaune Sias-Matthews and the late Michael Ray Sias. Grandmother of Mark C. B. (Tiara) Matthews, Michaela Sias (Alexander) Richard, Sean Romello Matthews, and Sydney Dominique Sias (Christopher) McClelland. Daughter of the late Rev. Eckard Johnson, Sr. and Isabelle Alexander Johnson. Sister of Eckard (Catherine) Johnson, Jr., Joycelyn J. Johnson, and Jean J. (Leon) Hurst, and the late Louise J. Duplessis, and Carolyn Rose J. Dillard.  Godmother of Riasia Thornton, Aleece W. Doucette, Elroy Ricard, Juan T. Johnson, Raquel M. Augustine, Akeia D. Brooks. Also survived by 6 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Oakville Missionary Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at Oakville Missionary Baptist Church 11280 Highway 23 Oakville, LA on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 11:00a.m. Bishop Wilfret Johnson, officiating.
