GRACIE MARIE MATTHEWS

Gracie M. Matthews, a homemaker, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025, at the age of 77. She was a native of Houma, LA (Bayou Black Community) and a resident of Westwego, LA for over 50 years. Gracie was educated in the Terrebonne Parish School System and was a graduate of South Down High School. She loved helping family and friends, listening to the Blues, and playing bingo and solitaire. Gracie had a nurturing spirit and was known for her delicious home cooked meals. Her presence illuminated every room she entered, and her warm smile comforted all who knew her. Devoted mother of Clarence (Tandra) Matthews, Ricky Matthews, Laniqua Roussell (Angel, Jr.) Sheppard, and Derrick (Royneish) Roussell. Loving grandmother of Eppihany (Kyron), D’Mon, Lauren, Kyler, Megan, and Ricky, Jr.. Great grandmother of Kyia, Kennedi, Kyron, Jr., and Kayson. Daughter of the late Fellman and Louise Matthews. Granddaughter of the late John and Emma Matthews, Alex and Cora Davis Washington. Beloved sister of Cora Matthews, Viola Christian, Diana Collins, Ethel Moore (her twin), John Matthews, and the late Fellman, Jr., Lawrence, Hebert, and Michael Matthews, Nellie Mae Ruffin, Louise M. Mazink, Jacqueline Leblanc, and Jeanette Matthews. Sister-in-law of Alfred Collins and Daisy Matthews; also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Davis Mortuary Service, 6820 Westbank Expressway, Marrero, LA on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 10:00a.m. Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time at the parlor.
