GILDA DOZIER SMITH

Gilda Marie Dozier Smith went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 16, 2021 at the age 70. She was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Marrero, LA. Gilda was a graduate of West Jefferson High School Class of 1968, and a retired Licensed Practical Nurse. Beloved wife of the late Sam J. Smith, Jr. Devoted mother of Derrick and Crystal Smith. Loving grandmother of Barry J. Smith. Daughter of the late Harry Dozier and Violet Jones. Sister of Sheila J. (Nelson) Williams, Rev. Sterling (Gloria) Jones, Jr., Jennifer Jones, Nanette J. (Daryl) Shelly, Merlin and Cornell Jones, and Mechelle (Tracey) Coleman. Godmother of Katina Smith. Gilda is also survived by 3 sisters in law, 4 brothers in law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of First New Testament Missionary Baptist Church, St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church and all neighboring churches; members of Westside Missionary Baptist Association are invited to attend the Funeral Service at St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church, 6223 6th Ave. Marrero, LA on Wednesday, July 28 at 10:00a.m. Pastor Edward Joseph, III, host pastor; Pastor Sterling Jones, Jr., officiating Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time at the church.
