EVELYN STOKES

Eveline “Evelyn” Stokes entered peacefully into eternal rest on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at the age of 78. She was a native of Natchez, MS and a resident of New Orleans, LA. Beloved mother of  Diane (Errol) Muse, Jannie Mae (Kevin) Matthew, and the late Lester James Stokes, and Melanie Denise Stokes. Lewis Stokes  whom she raised. Grandmother of Delaware (Alyshia), Elizabeth, Lester, Reva, Cliton, and Erica (Lerone) Hilton, Jacqueline and Diana,  and the late Alexander Stokes, Sr.  Daughter  of the late Mack Stokes, Sr. and Josephine Jefferson Stokes.  Sister of Vera Burnes, Josephine (Harold) Slider, Roosevelt (Ann) Stokes, Henry Stokes, Robert Lee (Robin) Stokes, and the late Rev. Dr. Mack Stokes, Jr., Thomas Charles, Baker James, Charlie, David, and Ollie Stokes and 11 others. Her extended family Ollie Moore, Larry Woods, Clyde Davis, Elaine, George, and Ann Sewell, also survived by 18 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.  The family would like to express special thanks to Staff Chateau De Notre Dame, Wynhoven Living Center, West Jefferson Medical Center and Ochsner Medical Center. Relatives and friends of the family also pastors, officers, and members of Heavenly Star Missionary Baptist Church and neighboring churches are invited to attend the funeral services at Heavenly Star Missionary Baptist Church 1020 Cohen St.   Marrero, LA on  Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 10:00a.m. Bishop Justin L. Conner, Sr. of Greater St. Reed Fellowship of Ferriday, LA officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:00a.m. at the above named church.  Interment: Will Be Private.
