ERNEST ROUSSELL, SR.

Ernest Rousell, Sr., age 76, entered into eternal rest on Monday, November 4, 2024, at West Jefferson Medical Center, with his loving wife by his side. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and a lifelong resident of Marrero, LA. “Skinny” or “Ernie Roo”, as he was affectionately known to family and friends, was educated in the Jefferson Parish Public School System. He was employed with Scanio, Caro, and Matrana’s Produce Inc, prior to retiring in 2010. Ernest was also owner and operator of Roussell’s Lawn Care Service for over 45 years. As a faithful member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, Ernest served with the Church Security and Annual Picnic Ministries. Beloved husband of 29 years to Charlene August Roussell. Loving father of Caynon Roussell, Ernest Roussell, Jr., and Kama (Shannon) Roussell. Cherished grandfather of Jeremiah, Elantra, Kameron, and Megan. Son of the late Henry Roussell, Sr., Elnora Roussell Gaines, and Earl Gaines. Devoted brother of Richard (Shirley) Roussell, Norma (Junius) Johnson, Gloria Carter, and the late Henry, Jr., Harold, Sr., and Clarence Roussell, Marvin Gaines, Sr., Ruby McCall, and Lorainer Cuillier. Son-in-law of Betty August and the late Ralph August. Brother-in-law of Harriet and Juanita Gaines, Joyce Roussell, Charisse O’Brien, Rhonda (Timothy) Johnson, Chandra and Chareka August, and the late Roland McCall, Gary Carter, and Anthony Cuillier. Ernest is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and close friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, priest and parishioners of Saint John Paul II Catholic Church, and all neighboring churches; employees of Jefferson Parish Public Schools, United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, Fossil (Richardson, TX), and Baton Rouge Police Department are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 1000 Walkertown Way, Marrero, LA on Friday, November 15, 2024 at 10:00a.m. Pastor Thomas J. Brown, Jr., officiating. Viewing will be held from 8:00a.m.-9:50a.m. ONLY at the church. Interment: Restlawn Park Cemetery, Avondale, LA.
