EMILY CLEO SIMMONS JOHNSON

Emily Cleo Simmons Johnson, age 95, entered peacefully into eternal rest at West Jefferson Medical Center on Thursday, December 28, 2023. She was a native of Waggaman, LA and a resident of Marrero, LA. Emily was a graduate of Rosenwald High School. She continued her studies at Leland College in Baker, LA, and Grambling State University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science Degrees. Several years later, Emily graduated from Tulane University with a Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling. She was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. Emily was employed for 52 years with the Jefferson Parish Public School System as an educator and counselor. Beloved wife of the late Leonard Johnson, Jr. Devoted mother of Aveline J. Lewis, and O’Keefe Leonard Craig Johnson. Mother figure to Francine Jason, Jada Borne, Geraldine M. Bailey, and the late Linda Lewis. Daughter of the late Herbert Simmons and Ethel Pearl Simmons. Loving sister of Ernest Charles Simmons, Joyce M. Rose, and the late Lawrence, Ulysses, James, Jimmie, and Clarence Simmons, Lou Ethel Birden, Mary Casmere, Elnora Birden, Catherine Simmons, Katherine Scott, Gloria Jones, Clara, and Edna Simmons. Also cherishing her memories are 14 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Second St. John Baptist Church, Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, Tabernacle of Christ Baptist Church, and all neighboring church are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, 3512 Hwy 90 W, Avondale, LA on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 11:00a.m. Pastor Darold A. Ingram, Jr., host pastor; Pastor Royal Archie Jones, Sr. of Tabernacle of Christ Baptist Church, officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00a.m. until service time at the church.
