Chairman Ishmael Jackson transitioned peacefully into eternal rest at his residence on Saturday, June 8, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 88. He was a native of Gretna LA and resident of Harvey, LA. Chairman Jackson was a graduate of Lincoln High School, and he attended Our Lady of Holy Cross College. Shortly after, he was drafted into the US Army in 1958 where he served a short time in Ft. Hood, Texas until he was honorably discharged. He later worked at Texaco Oil Company as an Oil Field Mechanic, until his retirement in 1993. Post retirement he went to work at Our Lady of Holy Cross College as a Service Mechanic for several years. On April 28, 1985, Chairman Jackson was called to the ministry, and became pastor of Bibleway COGIC in 1999. As a pastor, he had a heart for the people. He had an impact on everyone he encountered. Under the leadership of Bishop J. A. Thompson, Chairman Jackson was appointed as the Second Ecclesiastical Second Jurisdictional Chairman of the Elders Council. Beloved husband of 64 years to Hazel Brooks Jackson. Devoted father of Carla Jackson, Torrey (Barbara) Jackson, Pamela Jackson-Lewis, Angela (Don) Jackson, and the late Kerry Jackson. Loving grandfather of Terrell Melton, Marcus Melton, Torres Jackson, Cedric Jackson, Ashlee Lewis, Racquel Jackson, Don S. Jackson, and Cameron Jackson. Great-grandfather of Marcus Melton, Jr., Skye Melton, Tye Jackson, and Ian Jackson. Son of the late Joseph and Henrietta Jackson. Brother of Reginald (Ann) Jackson, Leon Jackson of Richmond CA, Verna Jackson of Mountain View, CA, Geralyn (Eugene) Lynch of Oakland, CA, Regina (Roosevelt) Vincent of Vallejo, CA, Oralee Patterson, and Linda Jackson both of El Sobrante, CA, and the late Joseph Jackson, Agnes McElroy, and Audrey Garrett. Son in law of the late Earl M. Brooks and Eva B. Johnson. Brother-in-law of Eugene Lynch, Roosevelt Vincent, Oscar E. Brooks, Velma Ann Jackson, Karen Brooks, and the late Elder Dave McElroy. Also cherishing his memories are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Bibleway COGIC, Thompson Temple COGIC, and all neighboring churches; members of Emmanuel District and Louisiana Eastern Second Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction are invited to attend the Homegoing Celebration at Thompson Temple COGIC, 1515 Whitney Avenue, Gretna, LA on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 10:00a.m. Supt.
