Dorothy Pickett Shropshire Crooks transitioned to eternal life Friday, February 26, 2021. She was born in St. Francisville, LA  on July 18, 1935 to the late Daniel Pickett and the late Julia Bell. She attended Booker T. Washington High School in New Orleans, LA where she graduated in the class of 1951. At a young age she became wife and married the late Lonnie Shropshire, Sr. from Gloster, MS a Marine in the U.S. military.  In order to further her education, she earned an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education from Delgado Community College.  She was an entrepreneur, business woman and through her love for children became the Owner and Director of The Little Red Riding Hood Day Care Center.  The Little Red Riding Hood Day Care Center, a newborn to pre-K school nurtured, cared and educated over 3000 children for more than 25 years until Hurricane Katrina in 2005.  She was a loving wife to her husband Eniel “Val” Crooks, where they remained married for thirty- seven years until her transition to eternal life.  She resided in Gretna, LA where she lived in Jefferson Parish for 40 years. Throughout her life she tirelessly supported her children and grandchildren.  She was most proud of her children and always there to give love, support and guidance. She was an excellent mother. She is survived by her children, Vanessa S. Petit (Johnnie, Sr.), Alphonse Shropshire (Debra), Lonnie Shropshire, Jr. and Julane Shropshire, her grandchildren, Hyacinth M. McGuire (Terrance), Antoinette McKee, Bronson Shropshire, Steven Shropshire, Ebony Shropshire and Precious Shropshire, great-grandchildren Mason McGuire, Hayden Lane and Adonis Lane. She is also survived by her sister, Alice Pickett Vessel, step-children, Garfield, Pauline, Desree, Carolle and Ann Marie Crooks. Preceded in death by daughter Devora Catherine Shropshire, grand-children Kelly Marie Shropshire, Michael Xander and Malcom Xavier Levy, sister Katie Junius, Atris Gordon Sr., Felton Gilmore Sr. and Daniel Pickett Jr. Family and friends are invited to attend the homegoing celebration services at Davis Mortuary Funeral Home 6820 Westbank Expressway Marrero, LA 70072 on Wednesday, March 10, 2021. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am and services will begin at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Restlawn Cemetery in Avondale, LA.

DUE TO COVID-19 PANDEMIC ATTENDANCE WILL BE LIMITED TO 75 PEOPLE. IT IS MANDATORY EVERYONE ENTERING THE MORTUARY WEAR A FACE MASK OR SOME TYPE OF FACE COVERING.
