DORIS HOOPER PITTS

Doris Hooper Pitts entered into eternal rest on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at the age of 100. She was a native Westwego, LA and a resident of Harvey, LA.  Doris received a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Xavier University and a Master’s Degree in Library Service from Atlanta University. She was employed with the Jefferson Parish School System for over 40 years and was the First Certified African American Librarian in Jefferson Parish. Doris was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc, Westwego Historic Society.  Beloved wife of the late Ernest Pitts. Daughter of the late Sandy Hooper, Jr. and Selica Rogers Edward. Sister of the late Harold Hooper, Sr. and Sterling Hooper, Sr. Aunt of Harold Hooper, Jr, Earal (Judy) Hooper, Byron Hooper, and Tira Hooper, also survived by a host of other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of True Vine Baptist Church and neighboring churches are invited to attend the Funeral Service at True Vine Baptist Church 249 Sala Ave. Westwego, LA Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 10:00a.m. Pastor Leander Johnson officiating.
