Dessie Bernard “Sunny” Newberry departed this life at JoEllen Smith Living Center on Friday. October 20, 2023, at the age of 69. He was a native of Memphis, TN and a resident of Marrero, LA. Dessie was a self-employed entrepreneur. Beloved companion of Rosella McClure. Loving father of Justin Crump, Micheal Crump, Renada Bush, Diamond McClure, Shondra Crump, Ruby McClure, Ashley McClure, Crystal McClure, Jeremiah McClure, Direll McClure, and Ricky McClure. Grandfather of the late Chasley McClure. Son of the late Dessie B. Crump and Zelenia Crump. Brother of Larry, Micheal, and Teresa Crump, and Katherine Newberry. Best friend of Harry Jones; also survived by 50 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Ochsner Medical Center, Compassus Hospice, and JoEllen Smith Living Center for the compassionate care shown to their loved one.
