Elder Charles John James, Sr., age 81, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 28, 2021. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Gretna, LA. Elder James served his country as a member of the United States Army and was a graduate of the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Elder James was employed with Westside Transit as a transportation specialist for over 35 years. He was an associate minister at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, where he also served faithfully as Superintendent of the Sunday School and founder of the Male Chorus. Elder James was dedicated to serving people, preaching the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, and serving his family. Devoted father of Connie James, Charles (Dionne) James, Jr., Kimberly Nichols, Denise (Merlin) May, Brian James, and Craig (Monisha) James, Sr. Grandfather of Camile Epps, Charles James III, Brianna Whitfield, Cameron James, Bria Nichols (Patrick) Young, Brent Nichols, Deshawn Webb, Craig James, Jr., Ty’ree Riggleton, Amari’ James, and Carin James. Son of the late Patrick, Sr. and Margie James. Brother of Eloise Myers, Marva (Lavoise) Magee, Marian Steib, Glynn and Aldon James, and the late Oscar, Monroe, Patrick, and Godfrey James, Helen Crawford, Audrey Cooper, and Margie Rose. Elder James is also survived by his Goddaughter and niece Vanessa Walker, 5 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, brothers, and sisters in Christ. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of St. Paul Missionary Baptist and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church, 1738 L.
