BARBARA W. MILLS

Barbara W. Mills, age 78, transitioned into eternal rest at her residence on Friday, December 8, 2023. She was a native of Bridge City, LA and a resident of Harvey, LA. Barbara was a graduate of Grambling State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree, and Xavier University with a Master of Arts. While at Grambling, she became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Barbara was employed as an educator with the Jefferson Parish Public School System and retired after 28 years of challenging young minds. Beloved wife of the late Walter Mills, Jr.  Loving mother of Chistopher Cooper and Sean Mills. Daughter of the late James White, Jr. and Mary Alice Wiliams. Stepdaughter of the late Earl James Williams. Sister of Calvin White, Willie White, Melvina White, Betty White, Ann White, Lisa Carter, and the late Beverly White, Brenda Walker, Deborah Louis, Annette White, Edwina White, and James White III. Barbara is also survived by 4 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Second Salvation Baptist Church and all neighboring churches; Sorors of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Second Salvation Baptist Church, 212 Marrero Street, Bridge City, LA on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at 10:00a.m. Pastor Richard Williams, officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time at the church. Interment: Woodlawn Park Memorial Cemetery-Westwego, LA. Arrangements by Davis Mortuary Service 230 Monroe St. Gretna, LA.
