Andrew Jones, Jr.

Andrew “Poppa” Jones, Jr., age 71, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his loved ones.  He was a native of Gretna, LA and a resident of Harvey, LA.  Andrew was a graduate of Lincoln High School and attended Southern University New Orleans. While at Lincoln High School, he was a popular football player and garnered the nickname “Ape Man”. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Andrew was employed for many years in the hospitality industries, having last worked at the Holiday Inn Westbank. Loving husband of 13 years to Denise Hines Jones. Devoted father of Taneisha Jones, Marquis Jones, and Starkisha Jones. Beloved grandfather of Cameron Reese Jones, Ke’Ray King Bridgeport Jones, Ayanna Yazmine Jones, and Urell Brown. Son of the late Andrew Jones, Sr. and Delores Rollins Jones. Grandson of the late Terrance, Sr. and Josephine Warmington Jones, Peter, Sr. and Rosaline Woods Rollins. Brother of Josephine Jones (John) Thomas, Delores Jones Cotledge, Rose Marie Jones Twitty, and Denise Johnson. Nephew of Ceophilus (Delores) Jones. Andrew is also survived by his godson Ernest McGinnis, and a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members, of Evening Star Baptist Church, First Emmanuel Baptist Church, Life Center Cathedral, Jesus Christ Apostolic Lighthouse Ministries International, and all neighboring churches; Lincoln High School Alumni; employees of Holiday Inn Westbank, Maison De’Ville Nursing Home, and Compassion Hospice are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at DAVIS MORTUARY SERVICE, 230 MONROE STREET GRETNA, LA on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 10:00a.m. Pastor Preston Clark, Sr., officiating Visitation will begin at 8:00a.m. until service time at the parlor. Interment will be on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 34888 Grantham College Rd.
