Akeem Jamel Dorsey, affectionately known as Keemie, transitioned to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at West Jefferson Medical Center at the age of 33. He was a native of Marrero, LA and a resident of Harvey, LA. Akeem was a 2011 graduate of Helen Cox High School and continued his studies at Delgado Community College. He was employed with the Department of Homeland Security at the United States Customs House. Akeem was formerly employed at the Louis Armstrong International Airport with Transportation Security Administration (TSA). He was a faithful member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, where he sang with the Mass Choir. Having a love for music and dance, he served as lieutenant of the Krewe of Soweto Chapter of the Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club, and as a dedicated member of Step-n-Slide Line Dance. Akeem had an old soul filled with humor and charisma, who had a profound effect on everyone that came into his presence. Beloved son of Edwina A. Dorsey and Darnell Wilford. Devoted grandson of Carrie Wilford, Victor A. (Edmonia) Dorsey, Sr., Nelson Ambeau, Jr., and the late Ava Ellis Dorsey. Loving brother of Robert L. Lestrick, Jr., Darnell J. Wilford, Jalynn and Amair Wilford, and Angel Bates. Nephew of Victor A. (Marla) Dorsey, Jr., Williams and Daron (Keisha) Wilford, Ann Washington, Dynisha and Wanda Wilford. Cousin of Madeline and Victoria Dorsey, Imani, Ahlai and Aria Badie, Ahnjel Warrick, Derrick Ellis, and Tracy Green, Jr. Godfather of Dionna Washington, Gabrielle Hunter, and Levi Fisher. Also cherishing his memories are his devoted friends Renell Aaron, Christian Bailey, Sr., Amber Blevins, Danietra Fisher, Shemaiah Grant, Micah Riley, John Walker, Jr., and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church and all neighboring churches; employees of Dept. of Homeland Security (U. S. Customs House), Louis Armstrong International Airport (TSA), Neighborhood Walmart (Harvey), Blue Cross Blue Shield, Jefferson Parish Public School System; members of Krewe of Soweto and Step-n-Slide Line Dance are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 1000 Walkertown Way, Marrero, LA on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at 10:00a.m. Pastor Thomas J. Brown, Jr., officiating. Viewing will be held from 8:00a.m. until 9:50a.m. ONLY at the church. Interment: Evening Star Cemetery #2-Harvey, LA.
