James Phillips

James Phillips,Sr. departed his life on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Canon Hospice. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on July 17, 1952 to Lillian Bolden Phillips and James Hawkins Jr. He was the first of six children. Joyce (deceased), Kenneth, Betty, Barbara and Ronald Phillips. James was educated in the New Orleans Public Schools,and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High. Upon completion of graduation, He enlisted in the United Sates Navy. Later in life he married Babara Ann Trotter and from this union were three sons Jamyle A. Phillips,James Phillips, Jr.(died at birth) and Jermaine John Phillips(deceased). James accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the tender age of twelve(12). He was baptisted at Phillips Memorial Methodist Church where he served as an Altar Boy. Later James became a member of St.Stephens Mississionary Baptist Church pastored by Rev. Norman N. Francis where he sang in the Men's Choir. James was loving husband and father. He loved people, and, and was a kind and gentle person to all who knew and loved him. He had a smile that could capture your heart. James leaves to cherish his memory his son Elder Jamyle A. Phillips (Atlanta, Ga.)daughter in law, Tyisha M. Thompson Phillips and their 3 sons Jeffery, Jalen and Jaden Butler-Phillips. Two brothers Kenneth and Ronald Phillips, two sisters Barbara Phillips Mack (Larry) and Betty Phillips. Four sisters in law, Diane McMillan, June M. White, Rhonda Trotter and Doris Trotter. Three brothers in law, Donald G. Trotter, Philip McMillan, James (Jimmy) White and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his Parents, Joyce Phillips(sister), James Phillips,Jr.(son) and Jermaine John Phillips(son). Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Davis Mortuary Service, 230 Monroe St. Gretna, La. on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 10:00a.m. Visitation will begin at 9:00a.m. until service time at above named parlor. Interment: Biloxi National Cemetery- Biloxi, Ms. on Monday, June 25, 2012 at 11:00a.m. Arrangements by Davis Mortuary Service 230 Monroe St. Gretna, La.
