Emmett Charles Gilbert, Sr.

Emmett C. Gilbert, Sr. an educator and administrator in the Jefferson Parish School System for forty years, departed this life on Thursday, March 4, 2010 of natural causes. He graduated from Lincoln High School and Southern University. He was a member of Dominion and Power Ministries, director of the Mens Ministry and Spiritual Advisor to Alpha & Omega Community Mens Ministry. He was a devoted member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Devoted husband of 41 years to Beverly P. Gilbert. Father of Keva (Laron), Emmett, Jr. (Cynthia) Kyle (Cindy), Tondra, and Ennis. Grandfather of Stefan, Nia, Kyle Jr., Paris, Kalis, Pharen, and Noah. Son of the late Charlie and Mary Gilbert. Brother of Joseph E., Jonetta, Darnell, Marshall, Charlie, Joseph, and the late Elijah Johnson, also survived by a host of other relatives and friends. Age: 63 years a native of Waterproof, La. and a resident of Harvey, La. for the past 30 years. Relatives and friends of the family also pastors, officers, and members of Dominion and Power Ministries, Changing A Generation Full Gospel Baptist Church, Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, and neighboring churches. Employees of Jefferson Parish Public School System, members of Omega Psi Phi, Inc. and members of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., Helen Cox, John Martyn, Deckbar, Westbank Alternative, West Jefferson High, Marrero Middle, and St. Augustine High Schools, B & L Supply, and Kids R Kids Academy are invited to attend the funeral service from Dominion and Power Ministries 1525 Lapalco Blvd. Harvey, La. on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 10:00a.m. Bishop Jerry Henry, Sr. officiating Viewing will be held on Friday, March 12, 2010 from 5:00p.m. until 7:00p.m. at the above named church.
