James Brown

James Brown, Jr., age 87, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. Mr. Brown was born in Simmesport, LA to the late James Brown, Sr. and Emma Lou Calliham Brown on June 9, 1924. Mr. Brown was a native of New Orleans, LA. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce Veal Brown and five children, James, III (Jacqueline), Jerome (Patrice), Tarvis (Ocedra) and Gerald Brown and Toyce (former husband, James, Jr.) Carroll; one daughter-in-law, Dahlre Brown, and two devoted nephews, Grant Jones, Jr. and Phillip Flemings. Also cherishing his memory one brother, Otis (Jean) Brown and one sister, Verna B. Wills; eighteen (18) grandchildren and ten (10) great-grandchildren.; two (2) sisters-in-law, Toyce Humphrey and Evelyn Veal; one (1) brother-in-law, Sherman (Louvenia) Veal; four (4) godchildren, Darlene Jones, Latoya Buckner, Jowan Banks and Meri Harris and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Gary Brown, two (2) sisters, Helen B. Fleming and Margie Mae Brown; four (4) brothers, Cleveland, Willie, Lawrence and Clarence Brown. Relatives and friends of the family, officers and members of Pilgrim Progress M.B.C., Pastor, Officers and Members of New Gideon Baptist Church of Baton Rouge, LA; President, Officers and Members of the Louisiana Freedmen Missionary Baptist General Association and all surrounding churches, members of Fusion Masonic Lodge #23, employees of Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Federal Express, Nursing PRN of Baton Rouge, LA are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Services on Friday, February 17, 2012 at Pilgrim Progress Missionary Baptist Church, 3600 Loyola Avenue, New Orleans, LA, Rev. Dr. Louis S. Jones, President of the LFMBGA, Presiding. Visitation will be 9:00 AM " 10:00 AM; Fusion Masonic Order #23 Ceremony at 10:00 AM; Celebration Service at 11:00 A.M.
