Melvin Jones, Jr.

Melvin Jones, Jr., a self-employed contractor, entered into eternal rest on Monday, September 24, 2012 at West Jefferson Medical Center. He was a former welder with Avondale and Tide Shipyards and a member of Prince Hall Mason. Former husband of Melvina Nickerson Jones and Carolta Codrington. Loving father of Clayton, James, Melvin, III, Marvin, Lynard, Daniel, Marvin C., Calvin, Donna, Dorothy, Debra, Darnell, Deirdre, Tyra, Charita and the late Blaze M. Jones. Son of the late Melvin Jones, Sr. and Ruth Jones Hazet. Brother of Stewart Washington, Florestine Jenkins, Geraldine J. Miles and Margret Simpson; also survived by 42 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Age: 70 years a native of New Orleans, La. and a resident of Harvey, La. Relative and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Greater Redemption Church, Fischer Community Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Fischer Community Church, 1737 L. B. Landry Ave., New Orleans, La. on Monday, October 1, 2012 at 10:00a.m. Bishop James Nelson Brown, host pastor, Pastor Ervin Cooper, Sr., officiating.
