Elizabeth Theresa Davis Simmons departed from her earthly life at her residence on Monday, November 7, 2011 at 11:00a.m. , the trumpet sounded and the Lord said, Well done my child, come home, your work on earth is done. Wife of the late Ernest Simmons, Sr. Beloved mother of Vera Gougisha, Audrey (Amos) Jackson, Theresa (Wilbert, Sr.) Gougis, Joseph Simmons, Ernest (Ina Clare) Simmons, Sheila (Willie) Lewis, Eugene (Rosalie) Simmons, Ronald Simmons, and the late Robert Simmons. Grandmother of the late Anthony Simmons and Gilbert Larche, Jr. Daughter of the late James and Theresa Davis. Sister of the late Rebecca Davis Rice. Mother in law of the late Junior Gougisha and Gladys Simmons. Special friend of Bishop Jerry J. Henry, also survived by 43 grandchildren, more than 78 great and 73 great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Age: 100 years a native of New Orleans, La. and a resident of Gretna, La. Relatives and friends of the family also pastors, officers, and members of Good Hope Baptist Church, St. Mark Baptist Church, and neighboring churches. Employees of Jefferson Parish Schools, USDA, Wynhoven, New Orleans Schools, West Jefferson Hospital, and Serenity Hospice are invited to attend the funeral service at Good Hope Baptist Church 2028 Weyer St. Gretna, La. on Friday, November 11, 2011 at 10:00a.m. Rev. Eddie Cross, III officiating Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time at the above named church. Interment: Restlawn Park Cemetery-Avondale, La.
