George J. Celestan, age 83, a native of New Orleans and a former longtime resident of Niagara Falls, New York, transitioned to be with God at Ochsner Hospital on May 9, 2012 at 11:00 am surrounded by family. He was a retired laborer who worked in various factories in Niagara Falls, including Carborundum, British Petroleum (BP) and Washington Mills. He was an avid bowler and lifetime sports fan, especially the Buffalo Bills, New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Hornets, and traveling - spending time with family and friends. He graduated from L.B. Landry High School, where he served as drum major for the marching band, and attended Arkansas A&M College, majoring in architecture. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Amy Victor Celestan; daughter, Karen Celestan (Lee) of New Orleans; sons, Gregory Celestan of Tampa, Florida and Ronald Motley of New Orleans; granddaughters, Nikki Lee of Little Rock, Arkansas and Bryce Celestan of Tampa, Florida; sister, Myrtle Sargent of New Orleans; and a host of relatives and friends. Relatives, friends and members of All Saints Catholic Church, Franklin Avenue Baptist Church, Tulane University, Celestar Corporation, Dayspring Behavioral Health Services of Little Rock, and Parks and Parkway Commission of New Orleans are invited to attend a funeral Mass on Wednesday, May 16 at 11:00 am at All Saints Catholic Church, 1441 Teche Street, NOLA 70114. Fr. Michael Saah-Buckman officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am and the Rosary will be said at 10:30 am. Interment at Westlawn Cemetery, 1601 Belle Chasse Hwy., Gretna, LA.
