Ezekiel (Nookie) (Bird) Birden, Jr. , a disabled welder at Avondale Shipyard departed this life at River Region Hospice on Sunday, November 18, 2012 @ 12:07a.m. Husband of Linda Jones Birden. Father of Sean Patrick (Yolanda) Birden, Stepfather of Alvin Phoenix, Jr., and Shadrick (Aisha) Phoenix. Son of the late Ezekiel Birden, Sr. and Hazel Davis Birden. Brother of Bobbie Jean (Melvin) Blakely, Martha Allen, and the late Clarence and Alberta Birden, Evelynn Porter, Linda Gail Williams and Harold Birden. Godfather of Demetrius Lewis Brailey. Brother in law of Elnora Birden, Lester Porter, Donna (Leroy) Thomas, Hester Williams, Elizabeth (Frank) Grinstead, Dana (Ike) MaGee, Harriet Jones, Murphy Johnson, George Johnson, Omar (Martha) Sabree, Harry (Vera) Young and Terrance Butler. Devoted neighbor of Reginald and Nora Richardson, James and Lavern West. Devoted friend of William Kerry and Lemar James, also survived by a devoted nephew Dwight Birden, 13 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Age: 71 years a native of Waggaman, La. and resident of Bridge City, La. Relatives and friends of the family also pastors, officers, and members of Mending Broken Hearts INTL, Mt. Herman B.C., Third Emmanuel B.C. and neighboring churches. Employees of Ochsner Hospital Main Campus, Louisiana State Dept. of Highways, Orleans Parish School Board Security Dept., and Café 601 are invited to attend the funeral service at Davis Mortuary Service 6820 Westbank Expressway Marrero, La. on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 10:00a.m. Rev. James Gordon officiating Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time at the above name parlor. Interment: Will Be Private Arrangements by Davis Mortuary Service 230 Monroe St. Gretna, La.
