Bishop Melvin Roberson, born May 31, 1941, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 7, 2013. Beloved husband of Evella Whitney Roberson for 43 years. Father of Attorney Lekita Gynelle Roberson. Son of Pearl Roussell Gaines and the late Clarence Roberson, Sr. Stepson of the late Frank Gaines and Lucille Roberson. Brother of Janie Mae Gaines (Eddie) Smith, Elizabeth Gaines Wingo, Willamena Gaines Gaither, Victoria G. Scott, Herbert (Patricia) Gaines, Edith Gaines (Byron) Jupiter, Shelia Roberson Marshall, Lesia Roberson (Gregory) Baptiste, Diana Roberson (Ernest) Terry, George, Anthony and Larry (Barbara) Roberson, the late Wilbert Gaines, Clarence Robertson, Sr., Bruce Michael Roberson and Juanita Roberson. Brother-in-law of Vera Whitney Briggs, Evelyn Whitney (Ernest) Singleton and James T. (Nell) Whitney. Age 71 years. A native of New Orleans, LA and resident of Harvey, LA. Bishop Roberson became a Pastor in 1978 and served the Church of God of Prophecy in that capacity for thirty-one years. His last year of ministry was served at the Westwego location. He was ordained as a Bishop in 1981 and went on to serve in many different positions. He served as a District Overseer, Secretary of State Financial Committee, Youth Camp Evangelist and Counselor, State Field Secretary, Prison Minister of Louisiana Technical Institute and many more. Bishop Roberson was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving from 1960 to 1964. He was also employed at the Veterans Administration for thirty-eight years. Relatives and friends of the family, also all members of the Church of God of Prophecy and all neighboring churches, and employees of the Jefferson Parish District Attorney's office are all invited to attend the Funeral Services at Greater Mount Calvary Baptist Church, 1600 Westwood Drive, Marrero, LA on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Host Pastor Terry Gullage; Bishop James T. Whitney of the Church of God of Prophecy, officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:00 a.m. at the Church. Interment: Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Avondale, LA.
