Samuel Cann, Sr., age 89, departed this life on Friday, June 28, 2013 at Canon Hospice. He was raised and educated in Crossett, AR and was a resident of Marrero, LA. Samuel served in the United States Navy where he was a member of the Navy Band, playing the saxophone. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after many years of service. Beloved husband of 64 years to Catherine Cann. Father of Samuel (Jackie) Cann, Jr. of Alexandria, VA, Willie (Cassandra) and Eric (Yolanda) Cann, Gertrude (Larry Sr.) Collins, Erica Cann of Newport, NC and the late Nadi Smith. Grandfather of the late Collins Cann and Samuel Silas Cann. Son of the late Mittie Brady Cann and Rich Cann. Brother-in-law of Shirley Collins and Elizabeth Cann of Crossett, AR. Also survived by 17 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers and members of New Hope Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Funeral Services at New Hope Baptist Church, 434 7th Street, Gretna, LA on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Warren Johnson, officiating.
