Johnnie "Coach" Williams, born April 19, 1933 passed on away Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Touro Infirmary at the age of 81. "Coach" or "Big Will", as he was affectionately called by his students, players, and extended family. Was the father of Jon Glynn Williams, Cornell Davage Williams, and Corice Dorosa Williams. Grandfather of Alisha Christine Pagano and his favorite dog, Nola Roux. Great-Grandfather of Leah Christine Pagano and Devin Ramon Pagano. Brother-in- law of Dorothy A. Glynn Cager and Larry Cager, Sr. who are the parents of Larry Cager, Jr. and Deirdre C. Hall. Great-uncle of Tre' Michael Hall. First cousin of Yvonne C. Webster and Thomas Cooper, Jr., and the late Robert "Bobbee" Cooper. Preceded in death by his mother Dorothy A. Williams, Elizabeth Brown (maternal aunt), Georgia Cooper (maternal aunt), and his beloved wife Shirley Christine Glynn Williams whom he married on December 10, 1960. He left behind a host of relatives, friends, and former students from Carter G. Woodson Middle School (Physical Education), John F. Kennedy High School (football & basketball coach), and Schaumburg Elementary School (Physical Education) from which he retired. He was a member of the U.S. Air Force for four years being honorably discharged in 1956 from Fairfield Air Force Station in Fairfield, CA. but not before receiving the National Defense Service & Good Conduct Medals. He attended Gilbert Academy, Joseph S. Clark High School, Dillard University class of 1962, and obtained his Master's in Education from Tulane University. He was an active member of the Echelon's of '59 until 2005, an avid card player, trash talker, dancer, music lover, and an official member of the Who Dat Nation. "Coach" Williams will be missed by all the members of the community he educated whether formally or informally. He will be missed by the friends who loved to hear his laughter and gift of gab but most of all he will be missed, revered, and loved eternally by those who love him the most his children. Broad St. New Orleans, La. on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 10:00a.m. Rev. John Jackson officiating Visitation will begin at 9:00a.m. until service time at the above named church.
