Alpha Washington Young

Alpha Washington Young departed this life at Canon Hospice on Friday, September 12, 2014 at the age of 83. She was a native of Lake Providence, LA and a resident of Harvey, La. Alpha was president of the ushers board and church treasurer at Second Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and a member of Eastern Star Esther Daughter of Faith Chapter #13. Loving mother of Yvonne Young-Jones, Gwendolyn Young Collins and the late Elzie J. Young, Jr. . Grandmother of Danneal and Damian Jones and Joy Collins. Daughter of the late Isreal Washington, Sr. and Alpha J. Washington. She was preceded in death by 5 siblings; also survived by a host of other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Second Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, The Church Without Walls of Houston, TX (Ralph Douglas West, Pastor) and neighboring churches; staff of Florida Memorial University, LSU HSC and the Joint Commission are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Second Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 1829 Pailet Ave. Harvey, LA on Friday, September 19, 2014 at 10:00a.m. Pastor James Houston, officiating Visitation will begin at 8:00am. until service time at the above named church.
