Calvin King

Calvin King, a janitor, departed this life at his residence on Friday, April 10, 2015 at the age of 62. He was a native and resident of Algiers, LA. Husband of Janice Benn-King. Father Calrika Johnson, Kareem Johnson, Torri Vaughn, and the late Jonathan Troy King, Sr. Grandfather of Jonnae King and Jonathan King, Jr. Son of the late Rev. Dr. Dan King, Jr. and Frances Thibodeaux-King. Grandson of the late Rev. Joseph Thibodeaux, Sr., Ora Payne-Thibodeaux, Dan King, Sr. and Amelia King. Brother of Donald (the late Artemese) King, Edward (Lynette) King, Sr., Edwin (the late Alice Jean) King, Sr., Patricia King-Woodfolk, Oralee Noble Thomas, and the late Larry and Diane King. Nephew of Dr. Clara T. Byes, Joyce Barker and Hilda Jones; also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Calvin was a graduate of L.B. Landry High School and attended Grambling State University. He was drafted into Minor League Baseball by the Seattle Mariners for whom he played for several years. When he returned to New Orleans he continued his love for the game and became a coach with NORD Playgrounds. Relatives and friends f the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Algiers, Second Nazarine Baptist Church, Second Baptist Church, Mt. Sinai Baptist Church and all neighboring churches; employees of Dwight Eisenhower Elementary School, and NORD (Cutoff playground) are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Second Baptist Church, 2836 Sullen Place, Algiers, LA on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 10:00a.m. Pastor Taza Green, Sr. host pastor; Pastor Nathaniel Jimcoily, officiating Visitation will begin at 8:00a.m. until service time at the above named church.
