Lucy Mae Madere Austin, age 74, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 29, 2015. She was a native and resident of Jefferson Parish. Lucy was a graduate of Charity-Delgado School of Nursing and served for 38 years in the nursing profession with passion for helping others before retiring from Touro Hospital. Beloved wife of Tommy Austin. Devoted mother of Parrie Austin Phillip, Tommy Sherrod Austin, Ron Anthony Austin, and Jared E. Austin. Loving grandmother of Ashley K., Alanna B., and Jane L. Austin. Daughter of the late Charley, Sr. and Florence Hamilton Madere. Sister of Jeanette M. Merritt, Adeline M. Brown, Barbara M. Jones, Mary M. Turner, Martha Madere-Wilson, Linda M. Madere, Charley, Jr., Lionel, Harold, Darryl, Frederick, and Ruben Madere and the late Advil R. Madere. Godmother of Gayell Marco and Clyde Hutson. Mother-in-law of the late Glenetrice Austin; also survived by a host nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of, Thomas United Methodist Church, Oakland Baptist Church, First Free Mission Baptist Church, First Zion Baptist Church and all neighboring churches; employees of Touro Infirmary OB-GYN Dept., Jefferson Parish Fleet Management Dept., Austin & Associates Law Firm and members of NOBRA are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Oakland Baptist Church, 825 Rev. Richard Wilson Dr., Kenner, LA on Friday, July 3, 2015 at 11:00a.m. Rev. K. Short, officiating; Pastor Charles Hurst, host pastor. Visitation will begin at 9:00a.m. until service time at the above named church. Interment: Mt. Airy Memorial Cemetery-Boutte, LA.
