Mattie Bell Weatherspoon Russ, a retired food technician for Henry Ford Middle School, entered into eternal rest at her residence on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at 9:35p.m. Wife of Jimmie Russ, Jr. Mother of Cordelia Russ, Caroline Russ Minor, Emma Russ Anderson and Jimmie Russ, III. Daughter of the late Abraham Weatherspoon and Zella Stewart Weatherspoon. Granddaughter of the late Ella Stewart and Dr. Thomas Hutchins Marsalis. Sister of Roy Weatherspoon, Mary Griffin, Mildred Tyson, Rose Allen, and the late Willie Stewart and Jack Weatherspoon; also survived by 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other relatives and friends. Age: 72 years, a native of Centreville, MS and a resident of Avondale, LA. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Second St. John Baptist Church, Franklin Ave. Baptist Church and neighboring churches; employees of Longshoreman Local 3000, Louisiana Workforce Commission, AT&T, Audubon Dental Group and the United States Postal Service are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Second St. John Baptist Church, 242 Avondale Garden Rd. Avondale, LA on Friday, July 31, 2015 at 10:00a.m. Pastor Charlie Davis, officiating Visitation will begin at 8:00a.m. until service time.
