Alton Leon Savage, Sr.

Alton Leon Savage, Sr., a Lieutenant with the Gretna Police Department entered into eternal rest on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at the age of 81. He was a native and lifelong resident of Gretna, La. Alton was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School; formerly employed with Jefferson Parish School Board as a bus driver and Hunt Wesson Oil as an operator. Lt. Savage was President of OCUA Local Union 276, Board of Director of Westside Citizen Committee and served as a member of the United States Army from which he was honorably discharged. Beloved husband of Barbara Ann Savage. Loving father of Leslie Savage-(Derrick) Pruitt, Brian Keith Savage (Juanita), Alton Leon (Roxanne) Savage, Jr., Vanessa Dale Savage (Larry), and the late Trevis Lee Savage (Kim). Son of the late Warren J. Savage, Sr. and Gladys Beevers. Stepson of the late John Beever, Sr. and Beatrice Savage. Grandson of the late James Savage and Mary Pierce Savage. Brother of Earl J. (Grace) Savage, John Beevers, Jr., Elaine (Willie Dean) Cook, Denise Vizcarrondo, and the late Warren J. Savage, Jr. and Ronald Savage, also survived by 13 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family also pastor, officers, and members of Regular Baptist Church and all neighboring churches; employees of Gretna Police Department, Jefferson Parish School Board, Gretna City Officials, and DMV are invited to attend the funeral service at Regular Baptist Church 901 5th St. Gretna, La. on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 10:00a.m. Pastor T. A. Hodge officiating Viewing will be held from 8:00a.m. until service time at the above named church. Remains will lie in state at Davis Mortuary Service 230 Monroe St. Gretna, La. on Friday, September 4, 2015 from 5:00p.m. until 8:00p.m. Interment: New Hope Cemetery-Gretna, La.
